Summary of Time Riders v2

📘 TimeRiders: Day of the Predator (Book 2)

🕰️ Genre: Sci-Fi, Time Travel, Action, Young Adult

📅 Published: 2010

🔍 Overview:

In the second installment of the TimeRiders series, the team investigates a time-travel accident that throws Liam and a group of students 65 million years into the past, into the Late Cretaceous era—right before the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs.

Their mission: prevent the death of Edward Chan, a teenager who will grow up to invent time travel. But when things go wrong, the mission turns into a desperate survival struggle in the age of dinosaurs.

👥 Main Characters:

  • Liam O'Connor – Sent to the past by accident.

  • Maddy Carter – Team leader, working from HQ to fix the timeline.

  • Sal Vikram – Observer, begins detecting deeper patterns in time.

  • Bob – Still gone; replaced by a new support unit: Becks, a female humanoid with upgraded emotional programming.

🌍 Plot Summary:

  1. Mission Setup:
The team is sent to protect Edward Chan, a teenager visiting a military research facility in 2001. He must live, or time travel may never be invented.

  2. Disaster Strikes:
During the mission, a botched operation causes Liam and a group of schoolchildren (including Edward) to be accidentally sent back 65 million years into the dinosaur age.

  3. Survival in Prehistoric Earth:
Liam and Becks must lead the group through dangerous terrain, avoiding predators—including a genetically altered, hyper-intelligent dinosaur species created by a mysterious future force.

  4. Maddy & Sal's Race Against Time:
Back in 2001, Maddy and Sal must figure out how to retrieve the group. Sal begins to notice strange patterns in time, hinting that someone—or something—is manipulating history from the shadows.

  5. The Twist:
It turns out that Edward Chan survives, but the experience profoundly shapes him. His trauma and obsession with controlling time lead to his eventual invention of time travel.

💥 Climax:

  • Liam and Becks face off against an unnatural dinosaur species—possibly created by a future intelligence trying to sabotage humanity’s control of time.

  • The group barely escapes, but the damage to Edward’s psyche is done.

🔚 Ending:

  • Edward Chan is rescued and lives—but the TimeRiders realize their intervention may have been the very reason he creates time travel in the first place.

  • Maddy begins to suspect the Agency’s founder, Waldstein, may have a secret agenda.

  • Sal continues having eerie intuitions about shifts in time.

🧠 Themes:

  • The paradox of intervention – By trying to protect the timeline, are they actually creating it?

  • Evolution and intelligence – What if dinosaurs had become Earth’s dominant species?

  • Trauma shaping destiny – Edward Chan’s experiences hint at a darker future.
